Give a F*ck about Gaza

💔 Our hearts have broken again and again over what is happening to people of Palestine, so we have decided to come together and meet in community to hold space, share our gifts, engage our minds, bodies and hearts, and attempt to channel positive change, in whatever capacity we can.

📣 Give a F*ck about Gaza is an event designed to show our support for the people of Palestine, whilst raising money for an incredible grassroots organization that is distributing water and food on the ground in Gaza.

🕊️ From Ahimsa

As yoga practitioners and teachers, we follow the 1st limb of yoga (yama), which includes Ahimsa: a "non violent or peaceful" approach and is integrated throughout the yogic system.

💪 To Action

Yet, in order to envision and work towards a peaceful planet for all, we must also dismantle systems of oppression, use our voice and take action. We are all on the journey of liberation together, so let’s talk about it and support each other in the process.

✨ Join us at Soluna Space Lagos on Wednesday 24 July for an evening of meditation, yoga, Palestinian inspired food, a film screening and resource sharing. Let's meet with collective liberation as our intention, because no one is free until we are all free.

To book visit: www.tinyurl.com/give-a-fck-about-gaza

Any enquiries: ecoyogasurf@gmail.com / +351915675094

Suggested donation: 25 euros

🍉 All profits from this event will go towards Watermelon Relief: a group of dedicated activists who have been on the ground in Gaza. Their mission is clear: to assist displaced families during this critical time: www.gofundme.com/watermelonrelief

Integration for inversions and arm balances

Designed specifically with yoga teachers and advanced practitioners in mind, this workshop is about taking inversions and arm balances to the next level; through intelligent sequencing, integration and detailed asana breakdown. Safety is key and we’ll spend adequate time on each pose so that you feel the body mechanics of getting in, staying in and getting out; building confidence and playfulness in your overall practice.

We’ll use Vinyasa Flow to warm up the body, attune to the breath and sharpen up the mind, before launching into some high flying handstands, arm balances and advanced inversions.

Applying techniques from Frog Lotus Yoga’s advanced teacher training, I’m excited to share all the goodies I have learnt from senior teachers Vidya Heisel and Jennifer Yarro.

There will be a long, delicious restorative section and relaxation to finish.

Gentle yoga for the slopes

Yoga is an ancient art, science and practice that can help us in so many ways during the modern era. In this weekly class we use yoga as a tool to prepare us for the mountain as well as restore us from the time we spend on the slopes.

A gentle flow of movements for the spine, hips, legs and core - awakening, strengthening, stretching out and of course, a full relaxation at the end. Don’t worry if you’re new to yoga, we’ll take it slow. And it’s suitable for those a bit broken, even if you have an injury from shredding too hard.

Yin and Yang for the slopes

Yoga happens when we are fully awake to the present moment and practicing yoga involves a moving meditation of fluid discipline to allow us to experience this state.

In this weekly class we’ll use a combination of vinyasa flow and restorative to train ourselves physically and mentally for the mountain. Through yang we connect to our energetical roots in order to balance whilst sliding and utilise ujjai pramayama to stay focussed and present. We allow this mechanism of expanding awareness to strengthen our resolve, to tap into humility and to find our humbleness when graced with nature, the holy mountain. Through yin, we use gravity to help relax the muscles fully, taking a mindfulness approach to detach from busy heads. Together they help us stay strong AND flexible; agile AND calm; dynamic AND relaxed.

Quantum Yoga workshop

Yoga and Ayurvedia are intertwined in Indian history together.  They stem from Samkhya philosophy (of the Hindu tradition) and describe a world where all energy and matter is "prakriti" and pure potency is "purusha".

These Vedic traditions are beginning to reimmerge as humanity looks for ways to find balance in this chaotic, modern world.  The ancient teachings talk about the 3 gunas: sattva, rajas and tamas; explaining that these different energies make up the Universe as we know it.

samkhya creative philosophy.GIF

In the human body we are all born in to an individual and unique make up of the doshas; our own specific constitution.  This is our natural balance of dosha energy.  Relating to elemental properties - the doshas are VATA (air), PITTA (fire) and KAPHA (earth), and you can think of them in terms of their elemental power.  Vata is light, creative and permeable.. Pitta is forceful, focussed and transformative... Kapha is heavy, solid and tangible.  Neither is better or worse, but when exacerbated or out of balance, accordinging to Ayurvedia, this is when we see disharmony or disease manifest.

500px-Ayurveda_humors.svg.png

Drawing on this ancient wisdom, Quantum Yoga uses the doshas as a foundation for vinyasa sequencing.  In this workshop we will:

Delve into the 3 doshas and their characteristics.

Explore which one (or two or three) resonates most with us.

Learn what may happen when doshas are in, and out, of balance.

Practice dosha regulating sequences, which encourage natural harmony.

Yin yoga for the slopes

Join me every week for a mountain themed yin class especially for tired souls, broken bodies and exhausted minds. We know that rest is an important part of recovery and without it our performance on the slopes will suffer.

Yin is the perfect opportunity to forego the “apres” session in favour of something much more nurturing. Come and delve into deep and long stretches for the hips, helping to release fascia, create space in the joints and drop down into the para sympathetic nervous system.

We use gravity to help relax the muscles fully, taking a mindfulness approach to detach from busy heads and don’t worry if you’ve been on your feet in boots all day - there’s no standing postures involved, only delicious, calming restoration for your body and mind.

Every week starting 18th December 2018

Cost: €12 or €100 for 10 class pass

SUP yoga

Are you ready to take your yoga practice to the sea?

Using your board as the mat has many benefits and challenges.  For one, it brings us closer to nature: during summer we are able to enjoy the outdoors and SUP yoga takes it to a whole new level!  The sea becomes our playground, our teacher, our inspiration and in SUP yoga we can learn to accept and appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature all around us.

It also brings us into the present.  In traditional yoga, it can be easy for the mind to wander, especially in a static studio.  But when balancing on the surface of the ocean, we must remain utterly focussed or else - SPLASH!!!

Finally, there is no other way to strengthen the core, increase flexibility and improve stability, whilst giving yourself "me time" and space to find your centre.  An intense physical work out teemed with mindfulness and deep relaxation; we learn to find the balance between  steadiness & ease; strength & grace.

Join me for the very first session of SUP yoga on Saturday 30th June, at high tide in Porthminster Bay, St Ives, Cornwall.  Our introduction price is just £20!

POP UP YOGA in Morzine

At YogaRama we believe Yoga is the perfect practice for the slopes.  It gives us that well needed "me" time spent connecting on a deeper level with our body and breath; which in turn benefits our skiing or snowboarding.

In the POP UP yoga sessions we will work with vinyasa flow as well as yin, moving gently into the realms of subtle energy, connective tissue/fascia and yogic philosophy.  We'll peak towards some challenging and fun postures and sequences, that emanate the dynamic movements we make on the mountain.  Always finishing up with a delicious savasana, as active relaxation is integral to the yogic path.

LOVE YOGA

Deep, unconditional love comes from the heart, and what better way to connect with this area than on Valentines day.  This 1.5hr class centres on practicing self love - and through specific postures allows us to open and energise the heart space.

According to Harvard Medical school, Yoga’s benefits may extend to the heart.  A review of yoga and cardiovascular disease published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology indicates that yoga may help lower heart disease risk as much as conventional exercise, such as brisk walking.

Not only that, but yoga enables us to connect with our energetic heart: the heart chakra.

If you'd like to come on a journey to deepen your heart connection and unite with your source of compassion, empathy and love, please email me to secure a place.

Inversions at Altitude (with attitude!)

Inversions are a part of yoga practice that turn us upside down, literally!  Some people love them, and others avoid them, but if you're curious to learn more and take time to understand the theory and foundations of inversions, then this workshop is for you.  It may help you develop your relationship with inversions, because we know from yoga (being connected to our eternal source) it's not about nailing these funky moves (although that's fun and satisfying), it's about the learning journey - the process.  Through inversions we can shift our awareness to be deeper, more gracious, intuitive and accepting as well as experiencing the physical benefits such as more energy/prana/aliveness!

We'll be spending our time covering:

Theory: Why invert? Considerations/risks. Foundations & principles

Practice: Prep poses & warm up.  Handstands. Arm balances. Headstands

Flow:  Variations. Modifications. Transitions.

Suitable for all levels, but some experience with inversions would be advisable.

Contact: ecoyogasurf@gmail.com to book a spot (limited to 8)

Yin & Yang for the slopes

Yin & Yang for the slopes

The winter season is when we give it our all on the slopes and expect our bodies to comply.

The process of warming up and cooling down, before and after our physical exertion has so many benefits - including the reduction of injuries.  Join a yoga workshop focussed entirely on yin and yang energies, utilising the balance of opposites to develop and aid our mountain prowess.

The first half is looking at energetic vinyasa flow to activate core muscles, open hips and knees and strengthen arms.  Through conscious sequencing we switch on the dynamic reflexes in order to be ready to respond and navigate the hurdles of the mountain.  In the second half we wind down with long held postures, deep abdominal breath and a shift towards the parasympathetic nervous system - helping us "rest and digest".  Learning to enjoy deep relaxation (naturally) lets the body and mind process everything it has experienced, so its important to always take time for restoration.  By combining both the yin and the yang we can achieve balance and optimal holistic health - in this case, supporting our bodies and mind for maximum slope time.

Cost: €15 or €12 for seasonaires

Yum & Yang

The energy of yang is masculine, active and dynamic.  It holds the elements of light, heat, day and Earth which we cultivate in our practice through ujjai breath and postures designed to build strength.  We work through moving, flowing postures and explore the yang tissues - muscles -creating flexibility, agility and power.  We look to strengthen our core, legs and arms with a whole body physical work out involving pranayama (breathing) to ignite the fire in our bellies.  You may even build up a sweat, which is also healthy, as it is the bodies natural detoxification process!

This is a 1.5 hour vinyasa flow class completed by savasana, all levels are welcome.

The yang meal will complete our day, we hope feel enegised by the fuel is provides post yoga.

Yin & Yum

In this yin focussed yoga session we explore yin qualities such as femininity, listening and stillness.   The feminine holds the seeds of creation and potentiality.  We are resting and restoring the body through postures that reach the connective tissues rather than the muscles.  If you find it difficult to relax or “switch off” be guided through techniques which will help you experience parasympathetic mode - the opposite of stress!

This will be an hour long yin practice which is fully accessible to all bodies, followed by yoga nidra - a complete guided relaxation from head to toe.

There will be a feast of yin flavoured foods and calming drinks for nourishment afterwards.

Tap into the stillness and stability of mountain energy and join team Roxy for this opportunity to explore a vinyasa flow sequence specifically for boarders.   There'll also be elements of yin to help relax and restore, so it's not all work!  Balance is the key, especially as you're gliding down the slopes.  Even if you're not into snow sports, this is a great way to take your yoga practice to the next level.

Naturally Balanced

  • Well Being Studios, MMI, st agnes (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

“Naturally Balanced” invites you to expand your awareness and embark on a holistic journey using pranayama, meditation, yin yoga, vinyasa flow and Ayurvedic based Quantum sequencing.

This workshop is about connecting with the element of water and harnessing this energy within your body and your practice – we are 60% water after all.

We will begin by working with the connective tissues, ligaments and fascia through yin yoga. By creating space in the “yin” tissues we allow for a greater range of movement through the joints and we can go deeper into our “yang” practice. We will seamlessly transition into sequential movement, embody the ebb and flow of the ocean through our breath and bring these two into union. Our Vinyasa flow follows the Quantum method which honours traditional Indian Ayurveda and the assessment of the “doshas”; a recognition we were born with a certain and specific balance, and any ailments we suffer with are due to an imbalance in our true nature or energetic make up.

We will work on postures to strengthen, root down and ground the Vata energy (air/movement) that tends to keep us up in our heads. Meditative core work helps to stir the Pitta (fire) in our bellies, create stronger support for our spine and encourages us to stay cool under pressure. Arm balances help challenge our sense of stability and inversions turn our world upside down stirring up the Kapha (Earth and Water) within us.

Like water we have the power to be as still as a lake or as wild as the waves. Use this workshop to explore your many sides and many layers. You will leave feeling more connected, mindful, grounded and energised!

Price: £10 per person

Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity.

The theme for the 2017 celebration, organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, is 'Yoga for Health.' The theme highlights the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving an equilibrium between mind and body. The organizers believe that this approach to health and wellbeing can make a direct and useful contribution to humankind's quest to achieve sustainable development and move towards lifestyles that are in harmony with nature.

SURF FLOW VINYASA

As surfers we are looking to develop many aspects yoga has access to - balance, agility, flexibility, breath holding, core stability...

In the heart of Cornwall's surfing mecca Newquay, we explore the marriage and synchronicity between yoga and riding waves; diving deeply into functional movement to help become a better surfer.

To keep those more seasoned on the mat we will be playing with arm balances and inversions, with plenty of preparation poses to ensure those new to yoga move safely and confidently into a stronger practice.

With vinyasa, the focus is the breath so dedication to Ujjai pranayama is required, as well as curiosity, awareness and self compassion.  We approach the sequences just like we approach an incoming swell, letting go of our egoic concerns and opening our heart to the lessons (and potential bliss) that arise.

Just like the ocean, we honour the gifts our practice has to offer - most prominently, time spent undistracted and present within the moment and our bodies.

NURTURE THROUGH NATURE YOGA WORKSHOP

Sunday 11th June, 9-10am

Using permaculture as the framework of wisdom, yoga philosophy as a traditional spiritual and physical practice and Ayurvedia as a tool for wellbeing we can apply integrating systems and inter-connection within the body, mirroring the concept of the macrocosm and the microcosm; spiralling down into the root of people care: SELF CARE.

During my Permaculture Design Course in New Zealand, which incorporated yoga, meditation and satsang running parallel to the practical course I was inspired to unite my understanding and love of yoga with the pillars and principles of permaculture.

We will take a journey inward, exploring and energising zone 00, with the permaculture principles as our navigation and narrative.

Suitable for all permies, new to yoga or not, flexible or not, it will be postures and techniques accessible for all!
